SUMMER SIZZLES !
Hello all my friends ! I hope all of you are doing well, it has been a good chunk of time since I found the opportunity to update this page, what a fantastically busy year so far !
I am happy to report that this year has seen the continuing rise of Kiwi Pop/R&B star Anita Prime, whose album "Destiny" I had the very great privilege to both play drums on and produce. I've been on the road alot this year with Anita, touring the US extensively as part of the "All Star Rock Tour" alongside icons Robbie Dupree, John Lynn Turner (Deep Purple, Rainbow) and Joe Bouchard (Blue Oyster Cult), balanced out with 2 tours through Europe as well as shows in the Middle East, in the South Pacific, and Canada ... It's been totally awesome appearing on a bunch ofl TV shows internationally with Anita and the band, there's clips from all the shows on her website www.anitaprimemusic.com... Anita and I also had a fantastic time filming several episodes of the new reality TV show "Almost Famous", weaving our way through dives, diners, music venues and shopping malls, off-the-hook Los Angeles personalities, and a wacky hair salon called "Blow" ... stay tuned for more info!
Anita's first single "La La La" and video tore up the music channels, and has just been nominated for a 2011 LA Music Award, as well as a second nomination for "Best International Artist". We will be performing at the Awards Ceremony in November in Los Angeles. I invite you to go check the video out on YouTube , as well as the video for her second radio hit "Destiny".
Jam band stalwart Greg Merrit, whose album "Everything Changed" I had a great time recording at Tony Bennett Studios in New Jersey, has just broken into the Top-10 on the JamBand charts... congrats Greg ! We've been doing shows across the northeast, appearing at Fish concerts in Bethel NY, Darrien NY and Camden NJ. More opening slots are scheduled for late summer, as well as a larger cross-country tour for the fall.
I can be heard drumming on new albums for artists Skye Claire, Lucinda Roberts, Sherwood Moseley, Heavy Road, Isunray, Sean Gill, Lewis Copeland, Anita Prime, Nika Bright'n, Judie Tzuke, Rodney Pascual, Belt, Tori Green, Jasper James, Tatiana Moroz, Mike Mako, Tyler Burba, Maxine Linehan, Sophie Herbert, as well as on “Mahavishnu Redefined” alongside Billy Cobham, Dennis Chambers, Gary Husband, Billy Ward and Vinnie Colaiuta. In addition, I participated on soundtrack session and tv work for indie film “SkipTracers”, as well as MTV, Coca Cola, ESPN, Budweiser, The Comedy Network, and held a recurring on-camera role on NBC TV's "Lipstick Jungle" alongside actors Brooke Shields and Andrew McCarty, performing with Project Grand Slam and several songs from it's Grammy nominated album.
Not long ago I had the pleasure of filming several segments for the Evans Drumheads website (www.evansdrumheads.com), chronicaling my perspectives on various studio-drumming related topics, as well as a comical segment called “Drum Stool Diaries.”
And finally, I am happy to announce that photo-journalist Jules Follett's long anticipated 500-page photographic-essay hardcover book, "Sticks 'N Skins" (www.sticksnskins.com), featuring Ron alongisde some of the greatest names in drumming, has found great success and sales via Amazon and other outlets. Ron was a featured subject of Jules's eye-spy lens. As she put it, “These drummers, I tell you, such character … It’s the stuff that no one sees, ‘cause they’re always so hard to photograph on stage, being way back there; these guys deserve the limelight !" It was also a great honor to have been invited to the 2011 NAMM Show to sign copies of the book at the "Sticks 'N Skins" booth.
Thanks again to all my friends near and far, for all your continuing positivity and support, and I look forward to hearing from all of you and to sharing with you my times and travels !
Sincerely :-)
